**Origins and Early Years (2022-2023)**

The Picklebacks (aka "The Pickles") are an Austin-based amateur co-ed softball team competing in the Austin Sports & Social Club (ASSC). Despite their best efforts, they have won exactly 0 championships (we’re a work in progress, goddammit).

Founded in February 2022 as the Banana Hammocks, the team cycled through various fruit-themed identities—the Grapes of Wrath, Strawberry Fields Forever, Killer Kiwis, and Coconut Crushers—before fate intervened in April 2023. In a game-defining moment now known as "The Infamous Pickle of 2023,” in which they trapped and secured the out of an opposing teams runner in the ever elusive pickle between first and second base, leading to a unanimous rebrand as the Picklebacks. Since then, they have fully embraced their briny destiny.

**The Rise of the Pickle (2023-Present)**
In their early Picklebacks days, the team put up a lukewarm 10-11 record. But 2024 brought newfound momentum. Overcoming injuries and rainouts, they clawed their way to a 5-1 regular season finish in their opening season of the year, securing a playoff spot. A thrilling semifinal walk-off win sent them to the championship, where they were promptly crushed 20-2 by the Raging Alcoballics. The silver lined pickle jar: they posted their best season record (6-2) in franchise history. From that momentum, the 2024 seasons faired better, ending the year with a 17-12 record. 2024 was a momentum shift for the Pickles. With their pickle shaped hearts on fire and minds on ice, they turn to 2025 with renewed focus and determination to be the best damn Pickles that there ever was.
